Smoked Sausage, Purple/Green Cabbage, Sweet Peppers, Onion, & Gouda Cheese Grits
2 lbs Sunset Farm Foods mild smoked sausage (2 – 1 lb. packs; or any other variety of Sunset Farm Foods Premium sausage)
2 tbsp vegetable oil
3/4 cup diced sweet onion
2 tsp minced garlic
1/2 head purple cabbage
1/2 head green cabbage
4 small sweet bell peppers any color works
1 cup grits (used here are local grits from Tifton, GA)
1 cup Gouda cheese
1/2 tbsp red pepper flake
1/2 tbsp salt and pepper
Remove sausage from pack and grill or pan sear.
Heat vegetable oil in pan and chop the cabbage, peppers, and onion.
Add minced garlic, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes, and all of the vegetables. Cook until veggies are tender.
Follow instructions on box or bag of grits and cook until soft. Add the cheese at the end and stir until melted.
When sausage is heated, remove and slice into bite sized pieces.
Plate the grits, then the veggies, and finally top with the smoked sausage.
Garnish however you’d like. Parsley works well with this dish.
